Gaily bedight, A gallant knight, In sunshine and in shadow, Had journeyed long, Singing a song, In search of Eldorado. But he grew old— This knight so bold— And o'er his heart a shadow Fell as he found No spot of ground That looked like Eldorado. And, as his strength Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim shadow— 'Shadow,' said he, 'Where can it be— This land of Eldorado?' 'Over the mountains Of the moon, Down the valley of the shadow, Ride, boldly ride,' The shade replied,— 'If you seek for Eldorado!'

Lorenzo Snow

Lorenzo Snow (April 3, 1814 - October 10, 1901) was the fifth president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1898 to his death. Snow was the last president of the LDS Church in the nineteenth century.

Snow was the fifth child and first son of Oliver Snow and Rosetta Pettibone, residents of Mantua, Ohio, who had left New England to settle on a new and fertile farm in the Ohio Valley. Despite the labor required on the farm, the Snow family valued learning and saw that each child had educational opportunities. Lorenzo received his final year of education at Oberlin College, which was originally founded by two Presbyterian ministers. Snow later made his living as a school teacher when not engaged in church service.
