Christmas Pie Lo! now is come our joyfull'st feast! Let every man be jolly; Each room with ivy leaves is dressed, And every post with holly. Now all our neighbours' chimneys smoke, And Christmas blocks are burning; Their ovens they with bakemeats choke, And all their spits are turning. Without the door let sorrow lie, And if for cold it hap to die, We'll bury it in a Christmas pie, And ever more be merry.

Charles Kendall Adams

Charles Kendall Adams (1835 - 1902) was an American educator and historian. He served as the second president of Cornell University from 1885 until 1892, and as president of the University of Wisconsin from 1892 until his death.

Born in Derby, Vermont, Adams studied with Andrew Dickson White, Cornell's first president, at the University of Michigan. Adams then taught history at Michigan until his appointment as president of Cornell. He was forced to resign at Cornell due to conflicts with the faculty over honorary degrees and control of faculty appointments. In 1892 he was elected president of the University of Wisconsin, where he remained until his death.
