Samuel Osborne Barber II (March 9, 1910 - January 23, 1981) was an American composer of classical music ranging from orchestral, to opera, choral, and piano music. His Adagio for Strings became his most famous composition and can be heard in films such as Platoon , The Elephant Man , El Norte , Amélie , Lorenzo's Oil and Reconstruction .
