Richard Crockett Edgley

Richard Crockett Edgley (born 6 February 1936) has been the first couselor in the presiding bishopric of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1 January 1996. Edgley has been a general authority of the LDS Church since October 1992.

Born in Preston, Idaho, Edgley was called to be the second counselor to Presiding Bishop Robert D. Hales in 1992. In 1994, when Merrill J. Bateman replaced Hales as presiding bishop, Edgley was again called to be second counselor. When former first counselor H. David Burton was made presiding bishop in 1996, Edgley was called as First Counselor.

Edgley is married to Pauline Nielson, with whom he has had six children. Prior to his call as a general authority, Edgley was a vice president of General Mills and a managing director of the Finance and Records Department of the church. He has degrees from Brigham Young University and Indiana University. As a young man, he served as a Mormon missionary in the eastern United States and has been a local bishop and a stake president in the church.
