Steve Landesberg (born November 23, 1945 in New York City) is an American actor, comedian and voice actor. The role he is most recognized for is that of the intellectual detective Arthur P. Dietrich on the ABC sitcom, Barney Miller . Landesberg has stand-up comic experience and performed a few shows which were aired on cable shortly after Barney Miller ended its run. Landesberg is credited for quipping "Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense." [1] Lately he has appeared in movies and does voice work for animated features.
