William James "Bill" Murray (born September 21, 1950) is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy-winning American comedian and actor. He first gained national exposure on Saturday Night Live , following that with roles in films such as Stripes , Groundhog Day , Space Jam , Caddyshack , Ghostbusters and Rushmore . He has gained acclaim [ attribution needed ] for recent dramatic roles, in films such as Lost in Translation , Broken Flowers , The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and The Royal Tenenbaums .
