All my life I have wanted to be a great painter in oils.... As soon as I have carried out my program for Germany, I shall take up painting. I feel that I have it in my soul to become one of the great artists of the age and that future historians will remember me not for what I have done for Germany, but for my art. Note: Other Nazis who were frustrated artists: Goebbles was an obscure poet in his youth; Funk was a musician; Baldur von Schirach wrote verse; Rosenberg dabbled in architecture.

Roman Polanski

Roman Polanski (born August 18, 1933) is an Academy Award-winning French-born Polish film director, writer, actor, and producer. After beginning his career in Poland, Polanski became a celebrated arthouse filmmaker, and Hollywood director of such films as Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Chinatown (1974).

He is also known for his tumultuous personal life. In 1969, his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the Manson Family. In 1978, after pleading guilty to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a thirteen year old girl, Polanski fled to France, where he now resides and is considered by US authorities to be a fugitive from justice.

Unwilling to return to the United States and face arrest, he has continued to direct films in Europe, including Frantic (1988), Death and the Maiden (1994), the Academy Award-winning and Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or-winning The Pianist (2002), and Oliver Twist (2005).
