John Tyndall (August 2, 1820 - December 4, 1893) was a very prominent 19th century physicist. His initial scientific fame arose in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism, resulting in his appointment as successor to the famous Michael Faraday at the Royal Institution in 1862.
